PRSD Celebrates Edwin Parr and Friends of Education Nominees at ASBA Zone 1 Awards Banquet

The Peace River School Division (PRSD) is proud to announce that two of its outstanding award nominees were celebrated at the annual Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 1 Awards Banquet on Wednesday, September 17, in Grande Prairie. Worsley Central School's first-year teacher Mikaela Tegart was recognized as the division's nominee for the Edwin Parr Teacher Award, and Cst. Arthur Sunday of the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment was celebrated as the Division's nominee for the Friends of Education Award.
The Edwin Parr Teacher Award recognizes exceptional first-year teachers. PRSD was honored to nominate Ms. Mikaela Tegart, a first-year teacher at Worsley Central School during the 2024-2025 school year. Having grown up in northern Alberta, Mikaela's strong roots in the area proved to be an asset in the classroom. According to Worsley Central School Principal Jennifer Daniel, Mikaela is a "calm, yet assertive educator who brings a genuine sense of care and empathy to her work". Her commitment to her students was remarkable, as she regularly checked in with those who needed extra support, communicated with staff about student well-being, and created an inclusive environment where "everyone's voice matters." She also went above and beyond by making herself available during lunch hours to offer extra help. The division is incredibly proud to have had her begin her career with the Peace River School Division.
The Friends of Education Award celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to the school community. The PRSD Board of Trustees was proud to nominate Cst. Arthur Sunday, the Community Liaison Officer with the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment. PRSD Board of Trustees Chair Crystal Owens noted that Cst. Sunday's presence in schools is "not just about law enforcement; it's about building strong, positive relationships with our students". Cst. Sunday spearheaded the Youth Mentorship and Modeling program, which introduced students to a diverse range of successful professionals, including an executive chef who has cooked for NBA players. His dedication also extends beyond the school day, with the organization of summer events and information sessions on critical topics like cyberbullying. Cst. Sunday has become a positive and reliable role model in PRSD schools, and the division thanks him for his tireless work and unwavering support for students.
The Peace River School Division congratulates both Mikaela Tegart and Cst. Arthur Sunday for their dedication and positive impact on our school communities
