Peace River School Division Celebrates Young Orators at Regional Declamation Event

The Peace River School Division recently celebrated the talent of young speakers at its regional declamation event. On May 15th, at 6 p.m., students, parents, and community members gathered at E.E. Oliver Elementary School to cheer on students from Grades 1-6 as they took to the stage to showcase their public speaking skills.
The event, a long-standing tradition for the Fairview and area schools, saw participation from Worsley Central School, Hines Creek Composite School, E.E. Oliver Elementary School, and Holy Family Catholic Regional Division's St. Thomas More Catholic School. Declamation is a vital skill for young learners. It fosters confidence, enhances communication abilities, and cultivates critical thinking. Learning these skills at a young age empowers students to articulate their thoughts effectively, engage with their audience, and become confident communicators in all aspects of life.
The audience was treated to spirited and lively deliveries of several cherished childhood poems such as "Alligator Pie" by Dennis Lee and "I saw my teacher on a Saturday" by Dave Crawley from students in Grades 1-4. The Grades 5-6 students presented 3-5 minute prepared speeches on a wide range of topics.
Congratulations to the Winners:
At the end of the event, first and second place winners were presented with medals and the first-place winners were presented with a plaque that they will be able to proudly display at their school.
