E.E. Oliver Elementary School Students are Published Authors

E.E. Oliver Elementary School was abuzz with literary excitement in the afternoon on Friday, June 13, as Ms. Larson's Grade 2 class hosted a reader's cafe where the young authors unveiled their new book, "Think Outside the Box Short Stories."

The students' family and friends gathered in the library at E.E. Oliver where they were served coffee, juice and cookies by the young authors. Once everyone was settled, the students proudly took turns reading their original tales. Inspired by various picture prompts, the students were challenged by Ms. Larson to let their imaginations soar, looking beyond the obvious to see something entirely different in the images. This approach to writing led to stories that all began with the line, "This is not a.... It is a..."

Student after student shared their stories with the invited guests. From the most confident readers to those who might have needed a little more encouragement, each student eagerly shared their story with the captivated audience. The pride and joy on the students' faces, and on Ms. Larson's face, was undeniable, a true highlight of the event.

Following the readings, Ms. Larson presented each student with a certificate declaring, "I am a published author," along with their own copy of the book.

This Reader's Cafe was a vibrant celebration of literacy and imagination. Ms. Larson succeeded in fostering an inspiring and supportive environment, where every student felt proud of their accomplishment as a writer. Thank you Ms. Larson for showing your students that with a little creativity, and an "outside the box" mindset, anything is possible!
