Trustee Dion Reinstated
June 13, 2025 - Peace River School Division Ward 4 Trustee Moïse Dion has been reinstated to his position on the Board of Trustees. Justice Eleanor J. Funk of the Court of King’s Bench issued a ruling on June 11 stating that the Board’s decision to disqualify Trustee Dion was disproportionate and the Board erred in law.
Board of Trustees’ Chair Crystal Owens has provided the following statement regarding the judge’s decision:
“The Peace River School Division Board of Trustees acknowledges the recent decision by the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta regarding Trustee Moïse Dion. We respect the court's role in this matter and we take these findings seriously and will be reflecting on them as we move forward.
It is important for our community to understand that the Board's decisions are always made with the best interests of our students, staff, and the integrity of our governance in mind. This particular matter arose from a series of documented concerns regarding Trustee Dion's conduct.
Maintaining a respectful and safe environment for everyone within our school division is paramount. The Board is committed to upholding its Code of Conduct, which is designed to ensure a productive and professional atmosphere for all stakeholders. Moving forward, our focus remains on providing excellent education for our students and ensuring a positive and effective working environment for all of our staff and fellow trustees, including Trustee Dion.”
Mr. Dion will return to the Board effective immediately. The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled to take place on June 19.
