August Board Meeting Highlights

The Peace River School Division Board of Trustees met for their regularly scheduled meeting on August 21, 2025.
Declaring Dixonville School as surplus
The Board of Trustees have declared the Dixonville School building and property surplus to the Peace River School Division, a requirement of the Real Property Governance Act and Disposition of Property Regulation. This motion initiates a process for potential transfer or sale of the building and property. While the regulation requires that the property be offered to other government departments for reuse before it can be sold to the public, the Board will include in their declaration the Dixonville Charter School Society’s expression of interest in the future utilization of the building and property.
Ratified Collective Agreement
The Board of Trustees have ratified the Collective Agreement between the Division and CUPE Local 4839: Bus Drivers.
Fairview Community Meeting
The Board of Trustees have requested that administration arrange a community engagement session in Fairview within the next three weeks. During this engagement session, the community will hear the pros and cons from the Peace River School Division regarding the viable options for the future of public school buildings in Fairview. The community will then have an opportunity to weigh in on the options, providing the Board of Trustees with important guidance for their capital plan. More detailed information about the community engagement session will be available in the coming days.
Red Earth Creek School Update
The Board of Trustees learned on August 21 that construction of the new school in Red Earth Creek has been delayed. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Thompson and Secretary-Treasurer Rhonda Freeman updated the Board, stating that no new timeline has been provided for when the project will begin.
Policy Review and Development
The Board of Trustees discussed Ministerial Order #30/2025: Standards for the Selection, Availability, and Access of School Library Materials. As per the order, the Board will work toward the creation of a policy relating to the selection, availability, and access of school library materials prior to January 1, 2026.
