PRSD Receives funding approval for Red Earth Creek School replacement project

[For Immediate Release] The Peace River School Division is thrilled to announce we have received construction funding approval for a K-12 replacement school in Red Earth Creek. The funding comes as part of the Alberta Government's 2024 School Projects budget.

A new school for Red Earth Creek has been a part of the Board of Trustees capital plan since 2015. The age and design of the current school building poses multiple challenges to education, and is quickly becoming too small as a result of growing enrollment at Red Earth Creek School.

In 2023, the Division received design funding for the project, which initiated conversations between Alberta Education, Alberta Infrastructure, the Peace River School Division, and the MD of Opportunity regarding what a new school could look like for this community. The Division is grateful for the support of the MD of Opportunity, as well as Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair, Peace River MLA Dan Williams and Central Peace-Notley MLA Todd Loewen for their support in advocating on behalf of the Division and the residents of Red Earth Creek, ensuring this project received funding approval.

Following in the steps of our successful joint-use facility in Grimshaw, the Red Earth Creek school will also utilize joint-use areas, including the community's public library and the MD of Opportunity's recreation space. The new school construction will include a corridor connecting the school building to the municipal recreation space, providing our students with excellent facilities to take part in physical education.
