PRSD Celebrates Education Week

Education week is not only a celebration of student education, but a celebration of community. In most rural communities, the school is more than a place where students go from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to learn about reading, writing, math and science. The school is also the hub of the community.

Education Week this year began on April 15 and runs until April 19. During this week, we want to celebrate and highlight just a few of the wonderful things happening at our schools.

This week our schools will celebrate the return of the PRSD Divisional Hand Games Tournament. The Tournament will take place at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex in Grimshaw on April 18 and include teams from nearly every school in the Division. We are thrilled with the way our schools have embraced this event.

Many of our schools are hosting Kindergarten Open Houses this week and over the next two months. These events provide prospective families an opportunity to go into the school and receive a first-hand look at our classrooms, speak with our teachers and other staff, and learn about the PRSD's Kindergarten programs. Specifically, École Springfield Elementary School, Nampa Public School and Dixonville School will all host their open houses on Wednesday, April 17. Manning Elementary School held their open house on April 16 during the day. For more details about Kindergarten Open Houses, click HERE.

Our schools are also places where students can discover and develop their skills and talents. Several of our high school students will compete in the North West Regional Skills Competition at the Fairview Campus of Northwestern Polytechnic on April 18 and 19. We are excited for these students to have the opportunity to put their skills to the test and shine.

At the PRSD, this week will also end with a professional development day for our teachers on Friday, April 19. These days are important parts of the education system because they provide our teachers opportunities to continue developing their skills as professionals.

No matter the school, there is always something happening at our schools that encourages students to learn more, dream bigger, and achieve success beyond the classroom. This years' Education Week theme is "Learning Uplifts All," and we couldn't agree more.

Together with community partners, the Peace River School Division is proud to offer students several creative and innovative learning programs, opportunities for parents to be involved in our schools, and teachers who are also leaders in their communities.
