In preparation of the launch of the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy later this year, we are giving students the chance to win an iPad by submitting a short video either telling us why their school bus driver is awesome or highlight school bus safety rules.

The North Peace Commercial Driving Academy will not only offer Class 1 MELT driver training, but will also encompass the Peace River School Division's established Class 2S driver training program. It is the goal of the Driving Academy to offer top-tier, professional driver training that will equip our graduates with the skills they need to confidently get behind the wheel.

Contest Details

The Challenge: PRSD students are invited to create a short video (60 seconds or less) using one of the following prompts or ideas:

• Inclement Weather: Busses are canceled when weather or road conditions are a safety risk to students. Busses will not operate when the temperature is -35 degrees Celsius actual or -48 degrees Celsius with the windchill or lower. The transportation manager will make this decision at 6 a.m. each morning.
• General Safety rules: 
• You see a bus with its red lights flashing, what do you do? Stop! When the red is flashing, no passing.
• You see a bus stopped and there are no lights flashing, what do you do? Slow down and use extreme caution, be aware that there may be students crossing nearby.
• If you are driving behind a school bus and you see it has its amber lights on, what should you do? Slow down and prepare to stop. Those lights mean the bus is preparing to stop to either load or unload students.
• How fast can a bus travel on the highway? The maximum speed is 90 km/hour or the posted speed limit, whichever is less.
• What happens if you don’t slow down and stop for a school bus? You can receive a $567 fine and six demerit points. You also put children at risk of harm or even death.

Prize: ONE (1) contest participant will be selected by random draw from the total number of participants to win an iPad.

Rules: Students may create videos in teams as each submitted name will be entered into the draw for the chance to win the iPad. Any submitted entry containing inappropriate content will result in the creator(s) being disqualified from the prize draw. Videos should be submitted as an mp4.
