September 23 Special Board Meeting Highlights
The Peace River School Division's Board of Trustees met for a Special Meeting on September 23, 2025.
Human Resources Hearing
The Board of Trustees made the decision to deny an appeal regarding a teacher transfer matter pursuant to Board Policy 14. The Board has authorized Vice Chair Lacey Buchinski to write a letter, on behalf of the Board, to affected individual with the written reasons regarding their decision.
Capital Plan Amendment
The Board of Trustees approved an amendment to the 2025-2028 capital plan to request approval for a new K-12 school in Fairview. While a new school is the Division’s preferred solution to aging and underutilized infrastructure in Fairview, the Board will continue with the Value Scoping process to fully examine the costs related to modernization of the existing school buildings. By continuing to explore all the alternatives during the Value Scoping session, the PRSD Board of Trustees can confidently ensure the chosen approach represents the most effective investment for students, families and community in Fairview.
Policy Development and Review
Several Policies were reviewed by the Board of Trustees, including Policy 2: Role of the Board, as well as Appendix A: Board Annual Work Plan and Appendix B: Performance Assessment Guide, and a new Appendix C: Board Self Evaluation. As first reading of Policy 2 was given at the June Regular Board Meeting, the Board proceeded with both Second and Third Readings of Policy 2 at the September 23 meeting.
The Board also reviewed Policy 3: Role of the Trustee, along with all three of the policy’s appendices. Finally, the Board reviewed Policy 7: Board Operations to adjust how the Board Agenda is organized, and Policy 12: Role of the Superintendent to amend the policy to include a requirement for the Superintendent to adhere to and comply with all Ministerial Orders and Government mandates on behalf of the Board. Both the amendments to Policy 7 and Policy 12 were approved by the Trustees.
