PRSD Announces New Coordinator & Facilitator of Peace Home Learning Connection
The Peace River School Division is very pleased to welcome Mrs. Marian Johnson-Higgins to the role of Home Education Program Coordinator commencing in the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Many of you have already worked with Marian over the last few years in her role as Home Education Facilitator with Peace Home Learning Connection.
Marian is passionate about establishing and maintaining trusting relationships with students, families, and the community. This has proven to be a crucial aspect in supporting those who home educate within the Peace River School Division boundaries and beyond. Marian is also committed to supporting each individual student and family in any way they need to experience success within their home education journey. Marian, her husband, and their two small children have made the Peace River area their home, and she enjoys the connections she has made with her colleagues, students, parents, and the communities that she serves.
We are also very excited to welcome Mrs. Sheila Clendining to the role of Home Education Facilitator for this upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Sheila brings with her a wealth of educational experience from elementary education all the way through to adult education, including teaching in Indigenous communities and overseas. Some of you may already know Sheila from her role as the teacher at Bear Canyon Colony School throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Sheila is passionate about building positive and trusting relationships with families and has gained a wealth of experience in her previous role as Home School Visiting Teacher with another school district in Alberta. Sheila also possesses her own lived experiences of the successes and challenges of homeschooling a child of her own, who is now grown. Through these experiences and ongoing professional development, Sheila is well-versed in a variety of family-led and student-led approaches to home education. Sheila is also dedicated to supporting families to best embrace their own beliefs and ideologies. She speaks fondly of her experiences with past families celebrating the level of commitment to deeply-held values and the desire to educate children in the most effective and nurturing environment possible.
We would also like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest appreciation and thanks for Ms. Golda David for all the work she has done over the years establishing Peace Home Learning Connection. Her dedication, hard work and support of the many families we serve in the Peace River School Division and throughout Alberta were greatly appreciated and valued. The impact she had in the lives of many students and families cannot be overstated. Thank you, Golda for everything you have done, we wish you the very best in all of your future endeavours!
We hope everyone has a wonderful summer and we are looking forward to welcoming you back for the upcoming school year!
