(Grimshaw, Alta.) On Friday, June 20, a Peace River School Division (PRSD) bus was involved in a serious collision in the Grimshaw area. A passenger vehicle struck the bus causing it to spin around, roll over, and land on its side.

On the bus at the time of the accident there were two adult passengers and one student passenger. The passengers were assessed by emergency medical personnel at the scene and the student was transported to hospital by ambulance. The adult passengers were transported to hospital by family members. All three individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released. The driver of the passenger vehicle was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance and is reported to be in stable condition.

The PRSD will continue to monitor the recovery of those involved. While there were no life-threatening injuries sustained, we know that a multitude of small variables could have resulted in a significantly different outcome. The Division commends our driver for their calm and professional response as demonstrated through their execution of the Division’s emergency procedures.

This incident serves as a critical reminder for all drivers to exercise extreme caution and reduce speed, especially during the hours when school buses are typically on the road. With the last day of school on June 26, the PRSD would like to emphasize the importance of abiding by road safety regulations to ensure everyone arrives home safely for the summer break.
