Council of School Councils Meet at Central Operations

On Tuesday, May 21, the Council of School Councils met at Peace River School Division's Central Operations building. This meeting takes place twice in a school year, in the Fall and Spring.

During the meeting, attendees discussed the transition between High School and post-secondary studies for students, with valuable insight coming from several of the Division's administrators. Attendees also discussed the annual Alberta School Councils' Association conference. There were three parents who attended the conference, stating the conference provided them with several valuable learning opportunities.

Attendees also heard from Director of Business Services Carolynn Fraser who spoke on the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy. During the meeting, Fraser stated that the Driving Academy is planning to launch in August of this year. Following the meeting, Superintendent Adam Murray offered tours of the Driving Academy to anyone interested.

The meeting concluded with discussion around topics for discussion during the 2024/25 Council of School Councils meetings, which included training on the role of the School Council within schools, information on available mental health and addiction services, among other ideas. The discussion continued with a round-table sharing about the exciting things going on at each of the schools represented in the meeting.
