Introducing the 2021-2025 Board of Trustees - Board holds Organizational Meeting and Elects Leadership Positions
On October 28, 2021, Peace River School Division (PRSD) held its organizational meeting where Board Chair and Vice-Chair were elected. Lori Leitch, Ward five trustee was elected as Board Chair and Crystal Owens, Ward two trustee was re-elected as Vice-Chair. Lori Leitch is starting her second term on the board and first year as Board Chair. Crystal Owens is beginning her second term on the board and her second year as Vice-Chair.  The October 18, 2021 School Board Trustee elections resulted in two new board members for PRSD with elections taking place in one PRSD ward and acclamation in one. During the organizational meeting, trustees also determined committees they will represent, appointed trustee representation to external agencies and scheduled dates and times for Regular Board Meetings for the 2021-2022 school year.  (View media release here)
 
September 30 Enrolment
Superintendent Adam Murray provided a report of PRSD’s school enrolment as of September 30, 2021, noting an increase in the number of students over the September 30 enrolment projection. PRSD’s total enrolment is 2,816 as of September 30.  Peace Home Learning Connection (parent directed) enrolment is higher than projected.  School divisions in Alberta are funded on a per-student basis and are required to submit total enrolment to the Alberta Government on September 30 of each year.
 
Board Policy 15
As per Board Policy 15, Superintendent Murray brought the Policy before the Board at the October Regular Board Meeting.  When costs incurred by the Board in maintaining a school and education program are high and it is viable to transport students to another school as well as the ability to provide an adequate education program to students in attendance are affected, Policy 15 comes into effect. When action is required on this Policy, the first steps are to do a study and information gathering with all stakeholders. The Board values its schools and will continue to work with its school communities and make decisions based on the needs of all students.
 
Board/Student Engagement
The Board looks forward to engaging with students and discussing items of interest that students bring forward to them.  The Board will meet with both the upper elementary/junior high and the senior high Student Engagement Teams once per year to discuss educational topics brought forth by students and the Board of Trustees.  The Board values the opportunities to engage with students.

Family Community Support ServicesThe Board voted in favor of writing a letter of support for the Family Liaison position to Family Community Support Services (FCSS) Fairview for the grant to support E.E. Oliver Elementary School, Fairview High School and St. Thomas More School students and families.  The Peace River School Division Board of Trustees has been working diligently on wrap-around services to help students/community find the services they need for overall health and well-being.
