PRSD Administrators Professional Development: October

Indigenous Education, Strategic Initiatives |

The PRSD Administrators Association met at Central Operations on Wednesday, October 21 for their monthly professional development session. During this session, Principals:

  • Received additional information about changes to the K-6 report cards across the Division
  • Spent time analyzing and reflecting on the factors that may have influenced their school's most recent PAT and Diploma Exam results
  • Had conversation around effective classroom visit, or teacher supervision, practices
  • Worked through an activity focused on better understanding the continuum of supports and services, and then determined next steps for their schools

During this meeting, Administrators also learned about offering tobacco as one example of respectful protocol when asking an Indigenous Elder or Knowledge Keeper for support in their schools. The session was led by Laura Krantz, Divisional Learning Coordinator, whose portfolio includes supporting Indigenous Education for the Division. Practices around protocol vary among Nations, communities, and individuals, and the Division recognizes that the right approach is guided by the person being asked.
