Privacy Statement

Peace River School Division

The Peace River School Division (PRSD) is subject to the Alberta Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and is committed to providing websites that respect your privacy. This statement explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you visit our Division and School websites, as well as when you use our online tools and services.

Information We Collect

Information You Give Us

We do not automatically gather personal information such as your name, phone number, or email address. This information is only collected when you provide it voluntarily — for example, by contacting us through email, submitting an online form, or using our parent communication tools.

When you submit a question, comment, or request, we may ask for your name, email address, or other relevant details. This information is used only to respond to your inquiry or process your request and is shared only with those it directly relates to, or with parties legally authorized to receive it under Alberta legislation (for example, Alberta Education).

Information Collected Through Online Forms and Permission Requests

Our website includes online forms for purposes such as parent communication and permission requests. When you complete and submit a form, the information you provide is used only for the purpose described on that form. Personal information exchanged through our parent communication tools is treated the same way — collected only as needed for the stated purpose and handled in accordance with POPA.

We do not collect information beyond what is needed for the stated purpose.

Information Collected Through Online Surveys

We use online surveys to gather perspectives, inform decision-making, and support research. All survey data is collected in alignment with POPA. When survey results are shared, anonymity is always protected.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, our web server automatically collects a limited amount of standard technical information needed to operate and maintain the site securely. This includes:

  • The IP address from which you access the website
  • The type and version of browser you are using
  • The date and time of your visit
  • The pages you visit on our site
  • The website you came from, if you followed a link to reach us

This information is collected in compliance with POPA and is used primarily to assess and improve our online services. No attempt is made to identify individual users from this data, except in the context of a law enforcement investigation.

Information About Students and Children

The PRSD operates websites and online tools that may be accessed by students, including those under the age of 18. We take the privacy of students and minors seriously. Personal information about students is collected only as necessary to support educational and school division purposes and is handled in accordance with POPA.

Parents or guardians who have questions about how their child’s personal information is collected or used are encouraged to contact us using the information at the bottom of this statement.
