PRSD Board Meeting Highlights from August 20, 2026
Report on Business over the Summer
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Thompson reported on summer operations carried out in accordance with Policy 2 – Appendix A. The modular classroom approved for Grimshaw Public School has arrived and preparation is underway for the first day of school. Thompson also reported that work to expand the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy yard at Central Operations was tendered and awarded in July. This work is funded through a Collegiate School Grant from Alberta Education and Childcare.
Families Matter Week
The Board passed a motion approving the week of the Family Day holiday in February as an annual Families Matter Week across the Division. Families Matter Week is a special celebration in PRSD Schools where staff and students have the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions families make to education.
Superintendent’s Vision for 2026-2027
Superintendent Thompson presented his vision for 2026-2027, reporting on implementation progress and challenges for the goals he established in 2024 upon being appointed to the position of Superintendent.
Dixonville and Red Earth Creek Updates
Secretary-Treasurer Rhonda Freeman reported that the former Dixonville School and its associated properties have officially transferred to the Alberta Government and are no longer the Division's property. Freeman also provided an update on the Red Earth Creek School project stating that the design-build proposal is progressing. Construction is anticipated to begin in March 2027.
Fairview Regional Campus Society Presentation
The Board welcomed representatives from the Fairview Regional Campus Society, who presented an update on their progress to date, current campus status, and plans ahead. The Society expressed interest in exploring partnerships with the PRSD to enhance student learning opportunities, support shared facility use, and create career connections for PRSD students.
Staffing Updates
Superintendent Thompson and Assistant Superintendent Hayden Gust reported on 2026-2027 staffing efforts. While recruitment remains a challenge, some of the highlights included being able to advertise for three new certificated teachers, one each for Grimshaw Public School, Fairview Jr./Sr. High School, and Manning Aurora Composite School, through Alberta Education and Childcare’s Class Size Reduction grant. The Division also received funding for an additional Jr./Sr. High School Complexity Team consisting of one teacher and one Educational Assistant, to be deployed in Peace River, with shared responsibility between TA Norris Middle School and Peace River High School.
