Class 1 for PRSD Students
Your Road to to a Class 1 Truck Driving Career
As part of the Peace River School Division, the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy offers PRSD students the opportunity to earn their Class 1 driving license during year 3, 4 or 5 of high school. This opportunity is offered without cost to the student and provides them with an immediate way to enter the workforce after graduation.
To get started, students can engage in the following road to success:
- Express early interest in the Class 1 program to your school principal. This can happen as soon as Grade 10.
- Complete the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy application form.
- Our Lead Instructor will conduct a pre-entrance interview to evaluate your readiness and goals.
- You are now eligible to attend the Air Brakes course at the Academy in Grimshaw on PD days. Students are eligible to take the air brakes course as early as 16 years of age.
- You must successfully pass the Air Brakes exam at an Alberta Registry.
- Once your Class 5 GDL restriction is removed, the Academy will enrol you into the mandatory online Entry Program.
- Email a progress update to our Lead Instructor after finishing Entry Program Module 4.
- Email a second progress update to our Lead Instructor after finishing Entry Program Module 8. At this point, the Lead Instructor will discuss the timing of your in-truck training.
- After completing the Entry Program, you must pass the written exam at an Alberta Registry.
- You may now begin your scheduled in-truck driver training sessions at the Academy in Grimshaw.
- You must complete the final road test evaluated by a certified Provincial Driving Examiner.
- You may now complete the Competency Training program to obtain an inter-provincial Class 1 license.
