Board Meeting Highlights - November 18, 2021

Audit Committee Report and Review of Financial Statements
Secretary Treasurer Freeman reviewed the Audit Committee Report and the financial statements. There were no recommendations for improvements by the Auditors. The Board approved the audited financial statements and commended Secretary Treasurer Freeman, the audit committee, and the central operations staff for their work with MNP Financial Accountants during the annual audit.

 

Departmental Presentation – Alternative Education
Virtual Education Program District Principal Butte and Home Education Coordinator David provided the Board with an update on alternative education offered by the Division. They explained to the Board how providing different services to families and students can help students in PRSD celebrate grade 12 graduation. These services include Peace Regional Outreach Campus, Fairview & Area Learning Store, Peace Home Learning Connection and Virtual Education Program.

 

Approval of Infrastructure Maintenance Renewal Plan
Secretary Treasurer Freeman reviewed the Infrastructure Maintenance Renewal Plan. The Plan was approved as presented.

 

Alberta School Boards Association Fall General Meeting Debrief
Board Chair Leitch led a brief discussion on the Alberta School Boards Association Fall General Meeting held November 14-16, 2021.

 

Council of School Councils Debrief

Vice-Chair Owens led a debrief on the Council of School Councils meeting held November 17, 2021.

 

Voluntary Rapid Testing Program

In a memo on November 5, 2021 Superintendent Murray communicated to all staff that a Covid-19 voluntary rapid test program would be accessible to all unvaccinated PRSD staff.  Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Green gave an update on the program and informed the Board that a memo outlining the procedure was sent to staff who signed up for the program.

 

Policy 15 Process

Superintendent Murray reviewed the Peace River School Division Policy 15 – School Closure process. Trustee Dyck asked that the Board form a Committee of the Whole and draft Terms of Reference on how information is presented to the Board.

 

Clear Hills County Trades Training

Superintendent Murray gave an update on the status of the funding on the Clear Hills County Trades Training Program.  Partnerships with Clear Hills County, Hines Creek Composite, Worsley Central School, Menno Simons Community School and Grande Prairie Regional College provide trades training to junior and senior high students.
