The purpose of Peace River School Division's (PRSD) Communication department is to present a clear and concise framework for communicating with our school communities, vested individuals and organizations.
Communication practices in the division encompass and support open and transparent two-way communication through various platforms such as face-to-face, written, digital media and online. This has bridged gaps in the area of communication and has provided open channels of communication within our school communities.
In 2011, PRSD was the recipient of three communication/engagement based awards. The division was awarded two national awards from the Canadian Association for Communicators in Education (CACE): an Award of Excellence was received for the communication planning of the initiative “Conversations Toward Student Success ONLINE” and an Award of Merit was awarded to the division for the planning and communication planning of the annual staff awards night, PRSD Gala. In the area of public engagement, the PRSD Board of Trustees received a provincial award from the Alberta School Boards’ Association Public Engagement Award for “Conversations Toward Student Success ONLINE.”
In 2013, PRSD was the recipient of three communication awards. The division was awarded three national awards from CACE for communication initiatives during the 2012-2013 school year: PARENTS MATTER Appreciation Week, Strategic School Communication Planning and the re-vamp of the divisional website and 18 school websites.
Communication practices and procedures in the division continue to evolve in the area of technology. This evolution has occurred due to the division’s desire to embrace technology and engage its stakeholders through various platforms. The use of technology, social media and website utilization to communicate has proved to significantly increase and be relied upon as an effective tool in school and divisional based communication.
