March 20, 2020 Update on COVID-19

Dear Parents and Staff,

We understand our families are patiently waiting to learn what the next steps are regarding their child’s education, and we sincerely appreciate your support, understanding and patience.  I am pleased to provide you with an update today in this regard.

As many of you are aware, Peace River School Division (PRSD)  school-based and central staff have been working since March 16, 2020, on developing an “at-home instructional plan” due to the cancellation of classes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 18, 2020, I had a virtual meeting with all of our school and central administrators to hear of the progress that they have made on their ”at-home instructional plans.” I am very impressed with the quality of work that schools have completed in developing plans for students’ success and overall well being.  Attention will now be turned to aligning each school’s plan with the Minister of Education’s March 20, 2020, release regarding the continuation of student learning in this time of crisis.

Access to the March 20, 2020, release can be accessed here.

Next week, PRSD will release a generalized “divisional instructional plan” that will be posted on it’s website and communicated on it’s facebook page. The divisional plan will provide a generalized overview of PRSD’s alternatives for education during the cancellation of classes while considering needs and factors in different communities to ensure equitable educational services for all students. On April 1, 2020, parents will be contacted by staff from their child’s school with details of the “at home instructional plan.”

I wish to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our students, families and staff for their patience and understanding during this unprecedented and challenging time.  This is no doubt a time of high anxiety as we all move through uncharted waters. To assist in this regard, I invite you to review helpful mental health information from Alberta Health Services below. Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to ensure that PRSD continues to support it’s students in fulfilling it’s mission of learning together, success for all. We remain committed to student learning, well-being and success while following the direction and guidance of the Government of Alberta.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we collectively work through this challenging time.
