Board Discussed Transportation Boundary Review
Peace River School Division (PRSD) Board of Trustees received a request from the Village of Hines Creek and Clear Hills County to review the current Transportation Boundary between Hines Creek and Fairview. The Board of Trustees held a Community Consultation meeting which was facilitated by Alberta School Boards Association Consultant, Terry Gunderson. The Transportation Boundary Review Community Consultation did not go as intended and further engagement with stakeholders will take place in the 2019-2020 school year. (see Media Release)
PRSD Board of Trustees Congratulated Rhonda Freeman, Secretary-Treasurer
PRSD Secretary-Treasurer Rhonda Freeman received recognition for complying with all the requirements of the School Business Officials Regulation under the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act. This is a big accomplishment and Rhonda is now registered as a certified member of the Association of School Business Officials of Alberta (ASBOA) and is entitled to use the title “Certified School Business Official” and the abbreviations “CSBO.” PRSD is proud of her accomplishment and commends her dedication to help shape a stronger education system for our students.
New name for former Grimshaw Jr. Sr. High School building
As per Administrative Procedure 541, which outlines the process for naming facilities in Peace River School Division, Superintendent Paul Bennett formed a committee consisting of the Central Administration staff who put forth names for the PRSD Board of Trustees to review and approve. As per recommendation, the board approved the name “Peace River School Division Central Operations” as the new name for the former Grimshaw Jr. Sr. High School building. (see Media Release)
Moving Schedule for PRSD Central Office to new location
A timeline for the projected relocation of offices from PRSD Central Office to the new location at Peace River School Division Central Operations in Grimshaw was presented to the Board of Trustees. Strategies are in place to move individual departments beginning in June to prevent any disruption in services to staff and students, with subsequent moves to follow through early July. In order to complete the final transition to Grimshaw, PRSD Central Office services in downtown Peace River will be closed to the public from Monday, July 15 to Friday, July 19, 2019 and will reopen in its new location at PRSD Central Operations in Grimshaw, AB on Monday, July 22, 2019.
Board of Trustees Reviews Recent Engagement Meetings
The Board reviewed recent engagement meetings that they participated in including the Senior High Student Engagement Committee meeting - April 9, 2019, Upper Elementary Student Engagement committee meeting - April 10, 2019, Grande Prairie Catholic Joint Board Meeting - April 5, 2019, Council of School Councils - May 1, 2019 and Red Earth Creek Value Scoping - May 9 & 10, 2019.
PRSD Graduation CeremoniesTrustees reviewed the PRSD 2019 graduation schedule to plan trustee welcomes at PRSD high school graduations. Each year, trustees attend graduation ceremonies in their respective wards to extend congratulations and bring greetings to students, staff, family, and friends on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
