PRSD's central office and facilities operations to relocate to Grimshaw Jr Sr High School

For immediate release
August 23, 2018 – During the regular board meeting held on August 21, 2018, the Peace River School Division (PRSD) board of trustees approved the renovation budget of $978,026.00 and transition timeline for a relocation of PRSD’s central office and facilities operations at the former Grimshaw Jr Sr High School (GHS) building. Facilities staff will relocate to GHS in the late fall/early winter of 2018 and central office staff will relocate in the summer of 2019.

“We understand this decision has an impact on staff and communities and throughout this process, we will work with our staff and do all we can to make the transition as smooth as possible” says Board Chair Darren Kuester. “The topic of consolidating services in one location has been on the division’s capital plan since 2004 and is not a decision we have taken lightly. We are elected to make decisions that ensure resources are used to maximize student learning and relocating facilities and central office services provides long term cost savings and operational efficiencies.”

Prior to the approval of the budget and relocation timeline, the board of trustees toured the facility as management staff provided information and answered questions from trustees regarding the proposed renovations, budget and transition timeline.

“Some classroom and office spaces will have partitions constructed, technology and electrical modifications made and new paint, lighting and flooring will be installed where required. Overall, the layout of the building and proposed renovations support greater operational efficiencies and more space for staff” says Kuester.

In order to ensure that there are no interruptions in facilities service and support in PRSD schools, additional staff will be hired which is included in the budget for this project.

The first step in the process is to consult with architects and engineers and obtain required permits. It is anticipated that renovation work will begin within the next two months.
