Education Minister David Eggen tours Grimshaw Public School and meets with the board of trustees

- Earlier today, Education Minister David Eggen toured Grimshaw Public School (GPS) and met with the Peace River School Division (PRSD) board of trustees.

“It was great to welcome Minister Eggen to tour the new facility and we certainly appreciate and value the time spent with students, staff and the board of trustees” says PRSD Board Chair Darren Kuester.

Minister Eggen was greeted by the GPS Student Parliament Leadership team comprised of students from grade four to twelve who also provided a special presentation regarding their leadership work in the school and the community. The student leadership team toured Minister Eggen around the new school and also gave him some special gifts made by K-12 students.  

“We are so proud of the students” says Board Chair Darren Kuester. “They are fantastic leaders and they did a great job welcoming and showing the Education Minister around Grimshaw Public School.”

The Town of Grimshaw Mayor Bob Regal and CAO Brian Allen joined the Minister’s tour of the Community Theatre and the Municipal Library and shared their gratitude for the government’s support of the Grimshaw Shared Schools Project that has and will continue to benefit the entire community.

Following the tour, the board of trustees met with Minister Eggen to discuss educational topics that included education legislation, partnerships, an update on the Act to Reduce School fees and curriculum review. Other topics discussed included the Minister’s recent announcement of First Nation Metis and Inuit resources for Alberta schools, school bus transportation and the government’s focus on inclusive schools. The board of trustees commended Minister Eggen for his contributions that foster safe and inclusive environments for students and the development of First Nations Metis and Inuit resources that enhance the sharing of integral history, learning, awareness and reconciliation. 

“It was such a pleasure touring Grimshaw Public School with their Student Parliament” says Education Minister David Eggen. “I met so many brilliant students in the process and had a very productive meeting with the local school board as well. I thoroughly enjoy traveling the province to meet with students and staff.”

During the Minister’s visit to the Peace Country, he also toured Holy Family School and attended the swearing-in ceremony for the Northland School Division board of trustees.
