PRSD welcomes new teachers at New Teacher Orientation
Peace River School Division is thrilled to welcome new teachers to the Peace River School Division family. Over the past two days (August 28 and 29), new teachers and administrators to the division have been participating in activities focused on student engagement, meeting the needs of all learning styles and classroom management through the annual New Teacher Orientation event.
“The orientation has been great” says Giulietta Kinahan, grade 5 French Immersion teacher at TA Norris Middle School. “I found the engagement strategies, resources and the real life stories shared by the presenters very useful. I feel supported by the school, the division and I am excited to start the year.”
The orientation provides a starting point for new educators in the division and the support continues with one-on-one support and access to school based coaches and PRSD’s Teacher Mentor Coach, Maurice Mayer throughout the year.
“The orientation is very informative, helpful and it is great to meet other new teachers from the division and the region” says Andrea Deas who is teaching grade two at Manning Elementary School.
The orientation is a partnership between Peace River School Division, Holy Family Catholic Regional Division and High Prairie School Division and also provides new teachers in the region the opportunity to network and build relationships.
As a part of the new teacher orientation, new teachers took a tour of the Instructional Materials Department at PRSD central office and enjoyed some social time bowling with fellow new teachers and PRSD management staff.
When asked to express his feelings about the first day of school, Bruce Gallagher, grade 6 French Immersion teacher at TA Norris Middle School shared his excitement
“I am excited to get started and meet the students” says Bruce “Everyone at the school and in the division has been very positive, energetic and helpful.”
PRSD welcomes new and returning staff to the division and extends warm wishes for a successful and rewarding 2017-2018 school year.
