Centralization of Services Review update
During the regular board meeting held on February 7, 2017, trustees reviewed updated financial information and engaged in discussions surrounding a possible centralization of Central Office and Peace River School Division’s (PRSD) Support Service offices.
Trustees also heard presentations from representatives from the Town of Grimshaw, the Town of Peace River and a Peace River community member.
Upon conclusion of the presentations, review of information, and hearing from community delegates, trustees posed questions and requested further information regarding costs and contingencies in place to renovate and transform Grimshaw Jr Sr High School (GHS) to possibly house PRSD’s Central Office and Support Services.
The board also requested that management bring back information regarding the real estate value of the Fairview Support Services building, and assurance that in the event that all PRSD’s support offices were to centralize in one location, that the transportation and facility needs of the western part of the division could be accommodated.
Trustees also requested that Superintendent Bennett engage in conversations with the Town of Peace River’s Chief Executive Officer regarding land available in the Peace River area. During Mayor Tom Tarpey’s presentation to the board, he mentioned the possibility of a partnership relating to land.
“It is imperative that we have information regarding all possible scenarios before we can make a decision” says Board Chair Darren Kuester. “As always, our primary focus is making decisions that support student learning and success and although this process is taking a considerable amount of time, we need to ensure we have all the information required to make a decision regarding centralization.”
The board will receive requested information at the April 4, 2017 regular board meeting. The meeting is open to the public and those wishing to make presentations to the board are to advise Denise Fortier, Corporate Secretary by March 30, 2017.
The April 4, 2017 meeting is one of the board’s two community meetings of the 2017 school year and is scheduled to be held at Grimshaw Jr Sr High School.
