Board of trustees celebrate three students in special ceremony

December 6, 2016- In a special ceremony held earlier today, the Peace River School Division (PRSD) Board of Trustees celebrated the accomplishments of three students. Mitch Davis, Amy Kos and Ammon Schofield were recognized for achieving a perfect score Provincial Achievement Tests written at the end of last school year.

“We are very proud of Amy, Mitch and Ammon” says Board Chair Darren Kuester. “Achieving a perfect score is an outstanding accomplishment that displays the dedication these students have toward their education”

Mitch Davis, current grade seven student at Glenmary School achieved a perfect score on his grade six Science Provincial Achievement Test. Mitch took the test in French as a French Immersion student at TA Norris Middle School. Mitch’s 

grade six French Immersion teacher June Hickey describes him as “a respectful and hardworking student who often helps his peers.”  She also shared that Mitch is an analytical thinker who is also strong in math, science, social studies, is an excellent artist, and a popular student with a great sense of humour.

Amy Kos, current Peace River High School (PRHS) grade ten student achieved a perfect score on the writing portion of the grade nine English Language Arts Provincial Achievement Test.  Amy is described by her teachers as enthusiastic, creative and energetic. Trudy Plaizier, Amy’s grade nine Language Arts teacher says “I always look forward to Amy’s writing because I know she will surprise me with something creatively wonderful, not only unique with ideas, but often illustrated and embellished with clever drawings.”

Ammon Schofield, current grade ten student at PRHS achieved a perfect score on the writing portion of his English Language Arts grade nine Provincial Achievement Test. His grade nine Language Arts teacher Trudy Plaizier says that Ammon clearly demonstrates a love of writing. “Whenever he is not using technology, his other great love, he can be 

found with pencil in hand, writing. Ammon is blending the worlds of digital media and storytelling in creative ways which will someday rock the world.”

During the special ceremony Board Chair Darren Kuester extended congratulations to the students. “Your hard work, attention to school and focus in class is an inspiration to others. Achieving a perfect score on Provincial Achievement Tests is an awesome accomplishment and we hope you all feel proud.”

Students were also presented with certificates and messages of congratulations from Debbie Jabbour, Peace River MLA who was unable to attend due to prior commitments.
