For immediate release
August 25, 2016- Congratulations to Tammy DeMerchant, Peace River School Division (PRSD) school bus driver chosen for the 2016 PRSD Transportation Award of Excellence. The annual award celebrates the dedication and commitment of transportation staff.
Tammy operates school bus route 31 in the Peace River area and is starting her third year as a school bus driver for the division. When asked how she felt about being nominated and chosen for the award, Tammy expressed surprise and gratitude.
“I’m excited. I was not expecting this and it feels really good to be recognized by the community and the school division” says Tammy. “I really enjoy driving school bus. I like being around the kids and the flexibility of the job is great.”
Superintendent Paul Bennett and Support Services Director John Przybylski presented Tammy with the award in a special ceremony in front of 100 school bus drivers during the annual Transportation and Support Services start-up meeting held at Fairview High School yesterday.
During the presentation, John shared commentary from management, office staff, parents and fellow colleagues regarding Tammy’s service to the division. “Tammy is a fantastic driver who is organized, thorough, positive and pleasant. She is calm, skillful and in control at all times. Tammy is described as a caring and kind human being and has very positive relationships with students and their families.”
John also commented how the transportation office has received phone calls from parents to make sure Tammy was driving again this year.
“Our school bus drivers are very important members of our school division family and play vital role in the education of our youth” says Darren Kuester, PRSD Board Chair. “The role of a school bus driver is so much more than transporting students to and from school and I can understand this as both my parents were school bus drivers. On behalf of the board of trustees, it’s my pleasure to congratulate Tammy and thank her for her important contributions to student safety, well-being and success.”
