Three PRSD students qualify for Provincial Skills Canada competition

Three Peace River School Division (PRSD) students are headed to the 2017 Provincial Skills Competition next week after qualifying at the regional competition held on April 28, 2017 in Fairview. The Provincial competition takes place in Edmonton on May 10 and 11, 2017 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. Congratulations to Fairview High School's (FHS) Callista Stensrud who earned Gold in Graphic Design and to Anthony McKnight and Reno Madden who earned silver in TV/Video Production.

"I am proud that we qualified for provincials" says FHS student, Reno Madden. "I believe that provincials will teach us how much hard work it really takes to be a qualifying team."

Anthony McKnight says that the Skills competition is good for high school students and helps to provide a snapshot of possible post-secondary options. "I think it's good for high school students because they get to experience what its like to work in a a trade and see if they would be interested in it."

Skills Canada competitions provide students the opportunity to compete in a wide range of trades-based categories. During the two day competition students specialize in one event area and must complete a project that has been designed by experts in the field.

PRSD wishes students all the best at Provincials and congratulates all students for their participation in all levels of the competition.
