Whitelaw School

Whitelaw School will remain open following a decision by the Peace River School Division (PRSD) Board of Trustees at the regular board meeting held on March 16, 2010. The overwhelming community response is credited with the defeat of the second reading of the motion to close Whitelaw School.

“The community pulled together to attract students and presented a proposal that increased technology and fine arts in the school” says Nan Bartlett, PRSD Board Chair. “The Board of Trustees looks forward to working with the community to ensure Whitelaw remains a part of our school community.”
 

During the Community Meeting held in Whitelaw on March 9, 2010, Whitelaw parents put forth a proposal that offers enhanced media learning to students beginning in the fall of the 2010-2011 school year. In addition, an Open House held by the school on March 4, 2010 showcased the school’s fine arts program and information was provided on the benefits of multi-grade classes. The school’s success in Provincial Achievement Exams was also communicated to potential students and families in the area. These efforts resulted in 11 new registrations for the 2010-2011 school year.

Peace River School Division commends the community of Whitelaw for their hard work, passion and dedication to their school and their community.

“We are confident that the proposed enhancements and increased enrolment at Whitelaw School will provide the community with a viable school and students with an enriching learning experience” says Paul Bennett, PRSD Superintendent.
